Change is good! It really is! Without it, life in itself would be mundane! Sort of like the movie “Ground Hog’s Day”! Who wants to do the exact same thing, repeat the exact same day, over and over again? True, there are days and times I wish would go on forever! But even that would get old over time.
When change is hard!
Change is hard when life throws you that curve ball! That unexpected loss! Whether it’s a loved one, a job, your sole income, your livelihood! It’s all hard! And I tell you this from my own personal experience! I worked for a company that was part of a bigger company! They sold off our part, and we had the choice to stay with who we were with, or move over to the other part! Having worked for the other part, too. I chose to stay with the smaller company! Part of that decision was based on the friendships. But the biggest reason is that I was comfortable there! That was short lived! Thirteen weeks in, we were called in to a meeting! The exact words we heard were “(insert name here) would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication, but this is your last day. Clean out your lockers, turn in your uniforms and leave as quickly as possible.” Yep! One of the hardest things a person could hear! Yes, there are worse, I’ve been there, too, but when you lose your income, it can be devastating! And the owner had sent his “people” in to tell us! He didn’t even face us himself! I carried a lot of frustration and anger with me that day! And it took a long time to shake it off!
And then it can get worse!
When it gets worse, is when you lose an income, but can’t adjust your spending habits! That was me! If I wanted to do something, I charged it! My thinking was “I’ll have a job in a couple of weeks. I’ll pay it off then!” Weeks turned in to months! Months turned in to a year! The unemployment ran out! And then there was NO income! That’s when it can be devastating!
I tell you all of this, because we all go through things like this! Each of us handles it in different ways! It felt like the end of the world, but it wasn’t! It’s been five years since that day, and I’m still here! And I’m still fighting to pay off that debt! But I’m getting there!
Still chipping away at that rock! And it will get better! I believe that! With God, all things are possible!
