As I’ve started this diet journey, I thought I’d share some diet tips that I need to do myself! First off……break up with your scales! Or hide them! Whatever it takes to stay away from them!
Diet Tips
I can always use new diet tips! Anything and everything that will help me on this journey! So besides keeping track of what I eat and exercising (read “Diet Journey – It’s About to Get Real“), I need to break up with my scales! Yes, I do want to know if I’m succeeding or not, but I need to do it in a non-scale way!
I have a habit of weighing myself OFTEN! I stuck to this diet for 3 days! I wonder how much weight I’ve lost! That’s my normal mindset when trying to lose weight! Weight doesn’t come on overnight, even if it seems that way, and it won’t come off overnight, either. If only it worked that way!
But then I step on my scales…….and NO CHANGE! But I’ve done so good! Why aren’t they moving! Or worse yet, they moved, but in the wrong direction. Now what?
More often than not, my reaction is: I’m a failure! This diet isn’t working! Why do I even try? I might as well make a cake and eat the whole thing myself! Why am I doing all this work for nothing!
Break up with the scales
So, this is what I need to do! Just break up with my scales! But it’s like saying goodbye to a best friend! How am I going to know if I’m losing weight, if I don’t have a set of scales to weigh myself?
I have a couple of suggestions for this.
First, I put them where I don’t see them. When they are sitting right where I see them, it’s hard to not step on them!
I invested in a set of scales that measures BMI (body mass index), water weight, body fat, and more. Set it up for every one in your family to use, too!
Bluetooth Body Fat Scale, FITINDEX Smart Wireless Digital Bathroom Weight Scale Body Composition Analyzer Health Monitor with IOS and Android APP for Body Weight, Fat, Water, BMI, BMR, Muscle Mass This is the set of scales I bought from Amazon. I highly recommend them! But there are plenty of options available, so pick ones you like!
And a few more non scale victories
Consider buying a new tape measure, even if you already have one. Tape measures can stretch through time, so purchasing a new one will give you truer readings. Measure yourself once a month. Even if the scales aren’t moving, if you’re exercising, you are probably toning up and possibly building some muscle, too! And remember, muscle weighs more than fat, but it also helps to burn more calories!
How about the way you feel? Are you more energized? Not getting so out of breath doing simple tasks! How are your clothes fitting? All of these are victories that don’t include relying on your scales.
But…..
There’s always a but, isn’t there?
I am trying to lose weight with Weight Watchers….. again! And part of Weight Watchers is attending meetings, AND getting weighed! So my plan!? I will only get weighed when I go to my meetings. That way, I won’t get too discouraged…..hopefully!
When I joined Weight Watchers years ago, you know, that one time I was actually successful, I would weigh myself BEFORE I went to the meeting, so I wasn’t shocked. More often than not, if I didn’t like the results, I would end up skipping out on the meeting. Which really didn’t make any sense, but that’s what I did! Yes, I know! I still knew what it was! But no one else knew! And as long as no one else knew, it was all good! It didn’t happen! Right?
So, now my scales are hidden, I’m writing down what I eat, and I’m exercising! So now I have to keep it up!
