Why am I leaving LuLaRoe? Do I still love the product? Why quit?
Why I’m Leaving LuLaRoe
I’m sure you see a lot of consultants leaving the LuLaRoe company. Or then again, maybe you don’t. I don’t know. I know in my area, or at least some of the groups I belong to, there are a LOT of people leaving! While I can’t speak for them, or anyone else for that matter, I will explain why I personally decided to leave.
At the beginning, I loved everything about LuLaRoe. I loved the product, the excitement, the adventure, I loved it all. There was a lot of love going around then!
But the expenses started piling up!
First, there was the initial inventory purchase. When I joined, the cheapest package available was a little over $5000. That package did NOT include leggings, which is one of the main things I wanted.
So I had to add that on to my initial purchase! Now we’re talking $6000, roughly!
Which was still not all that bad.
But then my upline, and others, kept saying “if you want to sell, you have to keep buying new”, or “if you sell 10, replace it with 20”, “sell 20, buy 40”, “the more inventory you have, the better chances you have of selling”.
Then, of course you have to have all of the sizes. And they suggest having 5 to 10 of each size! I understand that, because who wants to look at just 1 or 2 pieces, especially if you end up getting duplicates!
About one year in, I had myself so far in debt (and still am) that I don’t think I’ll ever see daylight! Because while I not only tried to keep up with the building of inventory, new styles got released! And of course I had to buy that, too!
Customers want the latest and most up to date item! I get that! I really do, because I’m sort of guilty of that myself!
And the debt kept going up! So instead of getting OUT of debt, I continued to go deeper!
Sure, I was selling! But I wasn’t getting any pay for myself, because all of the money coming in was put back in to buying more inventory and paying off the initial debt!
I felt like I was digging myself deeper and deeper in to a pit! Buy all the latest stuff! Pay off the bills! Buy more inventory! Get more supplies! Charge it, you can pay it off when the bill comes! Only the bills come, and the money has already been put back in to more inventory and supplies!
And Then I Fell Out of Love
Up until this point, I loved every single thing there was to love about the clothes! But two or three of the items that were included in my initial order, were items that are not top sellers. These particular items would not have been included in my initial order, had I been given the choice!
AND, to make matters worse, one of the items in particular, I got 5 different sizes, and each size had 3 of the exact same print! NOT GOOD! Trust me on that point! When you only have 4 mediums (just a reference) and 3 of them are the exact same…….well, go back to the beginning and see what I was being told to do!
I still have a couple of these pieces! And NO ONE wants 2 year old designs!
Are you starting to get the picture?
But I Still Wasn’t Ready to Leave
Even after all of this, I felt sure that I needed to keep trying!
So I did!
Until THIS Happened
When the new designs are released, we have to go in to the site and get in to a queue, which is a waiting line of sorts, to be able to get an order placed. Can you imagine getting in line, along with 70000 other consultants? Do you know what number I usually got? Somewhere between 30000 and 60000! Every. Single. Time. Seriously!
But, being the ever optimistic person, I waited it out! Sometimes it would go fast, other times, not so much! Several times, it was 2 hours!
And when I FINALLY got in, it was all gone! SOLD OUT!
Frustrating, to say the least! Not only did I waste my time, I ended up not getting any of it anyway!
You see, although the order you get put in is completely random, it wasn’t any fun to not get what everyone wanted, me included!
So I started to get discouraged! How was I going to make any money if I couldn’t get the hot item?
And this isn’t even saying about the glitches in the system that happened! Or the site timing out. You get the idea! There always seemed to be something!
So YES, It Was Time for ME to Leave
While I still LOVE the products, I fell out of love with the whole thing! I do not wish anyone bad luck, or not to succeed, but it was time for me to move on!
So, I started selling off my inventory, slowly! And it is a long slow process! And not to mention, to get rid of the stuff I had, I had to do it at a discount. Which means there is no profit being made! NONE! In fact, when you factor in the time spent, and the supplies needed for mailing everything out, I was actually losing money, and that is not the objective!
It was time for me to leave, when I would try to order, and the only sizes left were the really small sizes, or nothing at all! These pictures show what I saw when I tried to order. Keep in mind, that the GRAY color means it is not in stock!
And this started happening quite often! I do not want to purchase XXS and XS only! That’s what I have left now, and those sizes don’t seem to move….EVER!
All of theses pictures are just a small sampling of the availability! I have around 6 more pictures, just like them, but I won’t bore you with them! I just want to emphasis that I’m not being whiny! It is what it is, but I’m at the end of my rope, literally hanging by a thread, trying to figure out where to go from here!
It was time for me to leave when I was tired of seeing everything piled in one room, taking up space. Clutter, more or less, is how I started to feel!
So it was time for me to leave!
What I’m Doing Now
I didn’t give up on direct sales, by any means, just this one in particular. Maybe having an inventory based business was not for me! I applaud those that don’t mind this, and that continue on! And I wish them the very best! Plus, I also want to extend my best wishes to anyone just starting out, or who is considering joining!
In the meantime, you can see what I’m doing now, by going here!
